What I Learned Yesterday in My Instructional Design and Assessment Course

Well I forgot to blog about this yesterday, so I am going to just talk about my learning experience today. During my Instructional Design and Assessment course yesterday, the professor was instructing us how to incorporate the different learning styles into a lesson. Our professor used the example of teaching students about the circumference of a circle. First, he explained the definition and drew a visual on the board for us to see. This way of teaching only engaged two out of the eight learning style preferences. So then our professor had the class go into another room and we all made sure we had enough space for the activity. Then we each paired off into groups of three or four. After being instructed on the definition of the circumference of a circle, each group was going to apply this formula to finding someone’s height. Each group choose one person to measure, and once the person was measured with the yarn, the other members of the group figured out the person’s height in inches with a ruler. Now once the group had this measurement, the person who had his or her height measured before was to have the span from elbow to elbow measured. And finally once this measurement was made, the group could plus those numbers into the circumference of a circle formula and the answer will always come out correctly. So with this type of activity, every learning style but one was incorporated into the lesson which allows for more students to be engaged in the lesson.
